While doing leg extensions at the gym the other day I glanced through the new issue of Rolling Stone and found an excellent Roots feature. It’s well worth your 10 minutes (depending on your reading speed. I’m Flash with mines.) The piece explores the group’s humble beginnings, replete with funny high school anecdotes like this one:

Captain Kirk for President

The Roots performed “Star Spangled Banner” on Colbert Report last night. Perfect avenue. Perfect timing. And, given the current political climate, perfect choice of musicians. Captain Kirk really killed it. But if you’ve ever seen these fellas live, then his guitarrific performance shouldn’t surprise you.

On another note, I’m mad at Colbert; he has a copy of Rising Down and I don’t.
