Trae Undeterred by Trae Day Gunplay

It’s sad that, despite all the efforts made by Trae and others to inject some hope into the community on that day, most people will only remember that 6 people were shot on Trae Day. Never mind that the event was already over by the time those trigger-happy knuckleheads started shooting.

Check out this rather funny Houston Press recap of the pre-gunplay aspect of the event.

Happy Trae Day

happy-trae-day

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the day Trae tha Truth was presented with a proclamation from the City of Houston, a first in hip-hop. Houston’s mayor Bill White honored Trae with his own day in 2008 for his work with at-risk youths in the inner-city communities of Houston.

I’ll give you 10 seconds to mull over the idea of a rapper being honored with his own holiday.

OK, read on.

This year’s Trae Day events include: free school supplies giveaway, live music performances, pony rides, face painting, moonwalks for the kidlets and free HIV/STD tests and immunizations.

Guest List:

  • US Congresswoman, Sheila Jackson Lee
  • Members of Council Peter Brown and Ron Green
  • Houston Fire Department and the Harris County Council of Organizations
  • Bun B
  • Rick Ross
  • Gorilla Zoe
  • Mannie Fresh
  • Yung Joc
  • Hurricane Chris
  • Shawty Lo
  • Slim Thug
  • Blood Raw & USDA
  • J Dawg, Rich Boy
  • GS Boys
  • Rocko
  • Jay’ton and the whole ABN crew
  • Ron Artest
  • Von Wafer
  • Herculeez and Big Tyme.

If you’re in the Bayou City, head on over to the TSU parking lot between 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Happy Trae Day!

Money – “In My Own Lane” (Ft. Trae & Chalie Boy)

Money – “In My Own Lane” (Ft. Trae & Chalie Boy)

My unwavering crush on moola (as in dollar bills) may or may not have something to do with why I like this song. Maybe it’s because it samples this babymaking anthem. Or maybe it’s just that awesome! Oh wait, the song has nothing to do with money. That would be the artist’s name. I’ve officially lost it.

Trae Makes It Snow in Houston

Lil Wayne may be the Rainman but Trae is the real life Snowman. Houston Councilman Jarvis Johnson has tapped the gruff-voiced rapper and purveyor of all things depressing to host his 3rd Annual “Winter Wonderland” Christmas Party for the students in his district (District B) with the most improved academic record on Thursday, December 18th, 2009. Along with Councilman Peter Brown, who donated toys and decorations for the event, Trae will be on hand to play Santa and meet and greet with the lucky chillrens.

This isn’t the first time Trae has been caught hanging out with Texas politicians. You may recall that he was awarded a Proclamation by Houston Mayor, Bill White, earlier in the year, Trae Tha Truth.

The way Trae keeps palling around with politicians makes me wonder if he’s harboring some secret political ambition. Hey Trae, you’ve got my vote if you ever decide to challenge that Bushy named John Cornyn for his senate seat.

Serious Rapper Lightens up with Lil Hop Cartoon Series

Trae is probably the most serious rapper I know. And I mean that both as a compliment and as a statement of fact. If you listened to Trae’s albums and knew nothing else about the man, you’d think he was a grumpster who lives in a hearse. Part of that is because he’s been watching many of his close friends and relatives go away in caskets all his life. So it’s good to see him reveal a lighter side with this new cartoon series, The Adventures of Trae the Truth.

Pairing up with animator Jay S. (Jay Sugarman), whose Lil Hop cartoons have caused quite a stir in the rap world as artists check to see who his next subjects will be, Trae will debut the first episode of his new cartoon series, The Adventures of Trae tha Truth, on his site, alongside the drop of his upcoming mixtape Streets Advocate, on November 11th. The tape will be available in all national chains on December 9th.

Not for nothing. Be sure to check out Trae’s new mixtape for some good ol’ gritty Truth.

Video: Chamillionaire & Trae at Hurricane Ike POD

I posted pics of Trae and Chamillionaire handing out ice and water to Ike victimes the other day. Here’s a video of those two at a POD in Sharpstown Mall. If you can’t respect that, your whole perspective is wack.

Chamillionaire – “My Life” (feat. Trae & Slim Thug)

Koopa, Trae, and Thugga spitting some heartfelt lyrics over Game’s “My Life.” No matter how many times you hear it, it’s always refreshing to see these guys come together and share a moment. Houston hip-hop is slowly but surely witnessing a revival, ladies and gentlemen.
