Super Tight: Review of UGK’s ‘UGK 4 Life’

Completing a chapter of life is never an easy task. However, through difficult times, great people find beautiful qualities about themselves and what they are capable of. UGK’s final album, UGK 4 Life, is an example of this beauty. Having been released over a year after Pimp C’s unfortunate passing, it’s easy to assume that the album would be bogged down by a sense of tragedy. In reality, the album is, from intro to outro, 100% addictive feel good music. Read the rest of this entry »

Bun B + Lil Wayne - “Damn I’m Cold”
For some reason, this sounds slightly better than it did at the listening.

Bun B - II Trill Tracklist

bunbiitrill.jpg
I went to Bun B’s listening party last night. The democratic juggernauts at Rap-A-Lot gave us voting sheets and asked for our opinions on the songs. I stole this tracklist from one of those sheets.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here’s the II Trill tracklist, along with guests lineup and production credits. Read the rest of this entry »

2007 Rap List - Winners

20071.jpg

After weeks of deliberation, the 2007 Rap List is finally upon us. 25 hip-hop critics were asked to pick up to 10 of their favorite ‘07 releases. Points were then awarded to the nominated albums in descending order. As you might expect, the overwhelming favorites were Graduation and American Gangster, with 22 votes apiece. And, no, Curtis didn’t make anyone’s list.

Without further ado, here are the 25 Best Rap Albums of 2007 According to Hip-Hop Critics… Read the rest of this entry »

Two Six Mafia ft. UGK - On Some Chrome

chrome.jpg

Apparently, the boys from Memphis were hoping to capitalize on the “Int’l Players Anthem” buzz for another hit. Ehnnn! It ain’t happening. This was supposedly Pimp C’s final recording, so it deserves its own post.

UGK Tribute

Jive has put together a UGK tribute, just in time to honor the late great Chad Butler. Southern heavyweights like J Prince, David Banner, Lil’ Wayne, Young Buck, and Big Boi discuss the influence of Bun and Pimp on the rap game.

Rest in Power, Chad

Damn, I just came home to this tragic news. Pimp C was found dead in a hotel room, according to TMZ.com.

L.A. County Fire responded to a 911 call at the Mondrian Hotel, located on trendy Sunset Strip in Hollywood. They arrived to his sixth floor hotel room to find him dead in bed.

I can’t believe Texas just lost another one this year. It’s a sad day in hip-hop.

Pimp C Apologizes to Atlanta

ugk1.jpg

You know the check writers at Jive had to get on the phone with Pimp C after that Atlanta-bashing episode. (After all, they have an album to sell on August 7th.)

“To all my Atlanta fans & friends, I want to say I apologize for my statement in the Ozone magazine about Atlanta not being the south!! That was bullsh*t statement. Atlanta is and has always been the dirty muthaf***in south!! Chuuch!!”

Here’s the best part of his apology:

“But the rest of what I said about them p***y a** n***as is and always will be the truth.
PS: If you wanna go to war, I will take you to world war 3, b****, at the drop of a dime. If you ridin’ with me, thank you. If you not, f**k you very much…”

Unfortunately, the rest of Pimp C’s statement is not reprintable on a family website like The Rap Up.
