14 Deadly Secrets by The RZA

14 Deadly Secrets by RZA (Hosted by Tre the Boy Wonder and Derezon )
DJ Derezon & Tre the Boy Wonder, the duo behind DJ Premier’s 14 Deadly Secrets, chased down the RZA and convinced him to stop playing chess long enough to talk about music. As you probably know, 14 Deadly Secrets is a special session where legendary producers break down the stories behind 14 of their hits. Listen as RZA dishes some behind-the-scene stories about 14 classics, including “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and “C.R.E.A.M.” Pay attention, school is now in session.

Method Man at Comicon (Pics)

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Method Man crashed Comic-Con 2008 the other day. Who knew he could be such a geek? In case you’re just returning from a trip overseas, Meth just released his own comic book titled Peerless Poe.

Naturally, there’s a good guy (Peerless Poe), a bad guy (Lilith), a love interest (Jeanne), and a super group of allies (the Method Men). I’d rather see a comic with all the Clansmen prominently featured, if you ask me, but this will do for now.

You may want to read about Method Man’s comic book over at Smoking Section. While you’re there, peep their dope interview with Meth.

GZA - 4th Chamber/Shadowboxing Live Video

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

GZA performing “4th Chamber” and “Shadowboxing” live.

Makes me want to bust out my copy of Liquid Swords.
Is there even any doubts that Liquid Swords was the illest rap album of 95?

[Raise one to Arsenal at SP1200 for the video link]

:: We knew Ghost & Rae were close, but damn…

No amount of bickering and lawsuits could stop the Wu from gracing the stage together and doing what they do best. A couple days after U-God filed a lawsuit against Wu Music, the Clansmen performed at Toad’s Place in New Haven, Connecticut.

Peep some pics from that event after the jump. (more…)

Concert Report: Ghost Brings Rehab to Houston

Monday, November 26th, 2007

ghost-onstage.jpg

I learned two things at last night’s Ghostface concert in Houston:

1) Wu-Tang’s first Houston concert ended with the clan getting chased out the building
2) Ghostface live > Ghostface on wax

Ghostface blessed Houston with his gritty and witty brand of hip-hop, while promoting his upcoming Big Doe Rehab LP (out Dec. 4). Midway into the show, he paused for a moment and took us on a journey down memory lane. The year is 1992 and the Wu is performing “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin’ to F*ck Wit” at a tiny club in H-Town. RZA passes the microphone to a young man in the audience. The concertgoer boldly instructs: “Yo get the f*ck outta here with that bullsh*t” and hands the mic back to a bewildered RZA. (more…)

Calm Down Rae, 8 Diagrams is a Banger

Monday, November 12th, 2007

wu-tang-8-diagrams.jpg

Turns out 8 Diagrams is not as guitar-driven, orchestra-laden, and hippie-courting as it was cracked up to be. If the 7 tracks I’ve heard so far are anything to go by, then Raekwon has nothing to worry about. Funny enough, Rae is at his grimiest on this album, especially on those same “hippie” joints he publicly railed against.

This is kinda like the reverse of that silly Kelly Clarkson/Clive Davis dispute over the creative direction My December. She liked the album, he hated it. And as you may or may not know, the final product was borderline wack.

In the case of 8 Diagrams, Rae may just end up being the only one who isn’t wowed by the outcome. It’s too soon to tell though.

I’ll leave you with a few cuts from 8 Diagrams

Freebie Friday: Wu-Tang’s 8 Diagrams Mixtape

Friday, November 9th, 2007

wu-8-diagrams-mixtape.jpg
Loud.com is offering a free download of the 8 Diagrams Mixtape to hold you over until December 11.

Meanwhile, internal squabbles continue to rock the Wu camp. If Rae’s latest rant is anything to go by, the Clan will most likely release another album after 8 Diagrams…without RZA. Interestingly, RZA is yet to respond to any of the allegations from his clansmen. But if he did issue a response, it would probably go like this, “I cannot be bothered about the album’s diwection. I’m too busy playing chess and working on a Beatles wemix.”

Ok, I’ll stop…
